With atmospheric R&B harmonies and poetic lyrics in the realm of Björk, SZA, FKA Twigs and Flume - Swedish/Ugandan singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist & dancer Pheeyownah is releasing her debut album SILVER on May 3 via Labrador Records.
After "Mountain Peak, Sea Deep" (nearly 1 million Spotify streams) from her zero9zero9 EP, Pheeyownah released singles "Gold" and "Silver" off this album so far. Exploring empowerment, love, lust and insecurity with rich, heavy beats and melodic, spacious landscapes with hints of industrial sounds and no-filter lyrics, the album flows with musical and spoken interludes throughout.
Her parents fled from Uganda to Sweden in the 1980s, where she also joined the all-female Swedish dance crew JUCK, provoking contemporary debates on gender, sexuality, femininity and ethnicity by moving in ways unconventional for a woman.
"A meditation on love and the power of self,
backed by dynamic, spooky beats." - THE FADER
"The music Pheeyownah makes is a hazy and haunting version of R&B, with
smoky vocals, tumbling beats, and thick bass all working in synchronicity to form her distinctive vision." - XLR8R
"R&B and dream pop fans can expect a beautiful, atmospheric, and profound addition to their music collections." - Popdust
