Brooklyn-based Active Bird Community shared a new track “Somewhere ft. Samia”. ABC’s lead guitarist Andrew Wolfson says, “'Somewhere’ is a song about escapism. I wrote it during a time in my life when I experienced the most intense effects of alcoholism and depression. I’m happy to say I’ve been alcohol-free for over a year and I plan to spend the rest of my life that way. I feel extremely lucky to have had Samia breathe new life into this song and help turn it into something of its own .”
Samia adds, “‘Somewhere’ is so powerfully sincere. Andrew’s voice is heartbreaking and his lyrics are, somehow, ambiguous without leaving anything unsaid. It’s an honor to sing on this song and to know this band. ”
The new collaborative single follows the release of Active Bird Community’s latest album Amends, out in September via Barsuk Records, and an extensive North American headlining tour with Samia supporting last fall. The band has also announced their next and biggest headlining hometown show to date at NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on March 2nd. They’re currently on tour with Charly Bliss, and next week will begin their UK tour dates with Slothrust.
The band will be playing the following dates:
22nd Jan - Stereo - Glasgow 23rd Jan - The Deaf Institute, Manchester 24th Jan - Boston Music Room, London 25th Jan - The Hope & Ruin, Brighton 26th Jan - The Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham
Amends was introduced with the video for lead single “ Unwind with Me ” -- which premiered via Brooklyn Vegan -- and has been earning the band press attention from outlets including Stereogum, Upset, Loud & Quiet, Louder Than War, The i, The Line Of Best Fit, PopMatters, CLASH Magazine , New Noise Magazine, Paste (watch their live studio session HERE ), and NPR.
